Recently we did a review of the breakfast cereal aisle at our local supermarket. There were about 40 different cereals, and a lot of them LOOKED healthy.
Our criteria was that it had to be low in salt, sugar and fat, plus it had to be high in fibre.
Only five cereals met that criteria!
These five cereals were:
Oats (plain)
Uncle Tobys Shredded Wheat
Sanitarium Puffed Wheat
Sanitarium Weet-Bix
Abundant Earth Puffed Corn
Incredibly, none of the "healthy option" cereals made the cut, nor did any of the muesli! They were all high in one or more of the bad three - sugar, salt, or fat; or were low in fibre.
Hubby loves his muesli, so is now going to make his own. When he finds a good recipe, we'll be sure to let you know!
Don't forget to consider whether you add skim milk or full cream, and the quantity of sugar you add as well!
